Colin Chambers our education director was invited to speak on the Agents Course John Viola masterclass held at hotel football Manchester.

As a guest speaker Colin was asked to talk about the importance of scouting players in the role of an agent. The importance of understanding your players ability and levels they could play at. Understanding how scouting works and what to look for plays a very important part when the agent is looking for players but also when he needs to understand the clubs needs for players in different positions. Colin had this to say ” When analyzing players you really do need to know your stuff and you will learn this on the IPSO workshops and courses. What you need is to hold your own in conversation with technical directors or head’s of recruitment’s as one wrong word could cost you.”

Our DE was asked several questions form the trainee agents and answered them perfectly with antidotes for situations that could arise when discussing players, Colin added ” You’ve got to understand a lot when talking to professionals within the game like tactics, shapes they played and systems of play or you could be saying the wrong lines which won’t go down well with the opposite number showing a lack of knowledge in areas you should know more about, we will teach this on our workshops which is a great initiation for any want to be agent and a great starting point.”

All in all it was a great event organised by John & Phil (John Viola & Phil Mctaggart) the organiser and designers of this very good and interesting course that covered every aspect of being an agent. With guest speakers from scouts, technical directors, lawyers, CEO’s of Burnley, psychologists and the agents of John & Phil it was a great and well presented 2 days at the hotel football, followed by networking events with meals and tickets for the Man City v Burnley game. A great weekend and strongly advised for anyone looking to get into the agent/intermediary side of things.
