Level 2: The Observation Course
This is an excellent course designed to help students develop advanced observation skills in many different forms of football analysis.
The course explores how to observe body language, recognise unique player behaviours, and identify important details within both individual and team performances. It is a four-hour “Attention to Detail” course that covers every aspect of observation from players and teams to the environment in which games are played.
Students will gain practical insight into how certain situations can easily be misinterpreted and how experienced observers analyse these moments with greater clarity and understanding.
The workshop provides deep observation skills and professional “know-how” required when working across youth football, academy environments, and first-team settings.
Drawing from the tutor’s extensive experience, students will learn valuable tips, techniques, and real football understanding that can immediately improve their scouting and analytical work.

Youth Talent Identification Programme
This course explores the development of young football players from grassroots football through to professional academies at Under-23 level.

The course is made up of 4-days.

Over the 4-days you will learn to understand the role of a first-team scout reflecting on your current working practices in terms of scouting/analysing players fully supported by the IPSO tutors.

The Level 5 course is centred around match reporting and team assessments and is widely regarded as the most detailed and engaging course within the entire IPSO pathway.
It is specifically designed to teach scouts, analysts, coaches, and anyone interested in elite-level football analysis how to produce detailed, professional match reports and team assessments to the standard expected within the professional game.
This course goes far beyond basic observation. You will learn how to analyse all 11 players simultaneously and at speed, while also developing the ability to assess how teams function collectively both in and out of possession. The course trains students to understand attacking structures, defensive organisation, unit relationships, transitions, and set-play analysis in a decisive and professional manner.
One of the biggest challenges in analysis is knowing where to look, when to look, and what truly matters during a game. The Level 5 pathway develops that understanding in detail. You will be trained to identify team strengths, weaknesses, tactical patterns, player behaviours, and structural trends with the level of attention to detail expected by chief scouts, heads of analysis, and recruitment departments within professional clubs.
Most importantly, this course teaches you how to present your findings professionally within a structured reporting format used in elite football environments.
These are not skills that can be learned in a few hours or overnight. High-level match reporting is a genuine professional skill, and individuals who can consistently produce detailed and accurate team assessments are highly valued within the modern game.
At IPSO, we teach you how to create reports that genuinely make a difference.
The course concludes with a practical assessment where you are required to complete a full team report based on specific professional criteria. To gain the qualification, those standards must be met. The certificate is earned through competency and not simply awarded for participation.
If you do not pass the assessment on your first attempt, you can retake the exam as many times as needed at no additional cost until you successfully meet the required standard.
